Journalism is a fertility ritual

the art of performing for others who till

sow and harvest, while the gods stand still

A subject is a main attraction who does

not perform, reporters ask what they

already know the answers to

They’re only asking for you

We’ve gotten so used to being a part

of the show, we’d rather just play along

Try going somewhere they don’t get

a lot of cameras, they’ll look at you like

you’re crazy asking such stupid questions

They’ll think you mean what you say

less an interview than a hazing

What do you mean what’s it like here?

Why don’t you have a look around

See what you can make grow out of

calling this or that heartbreaking
